Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

The Kyoto protocol, a treaty that came into being on February 16th 2005 binds many developed industrialized countries in reducing the collective emissions of greenhouse gases that have a damaging effect on the ozone layer thereby causing global warming. The treaty that was ratified by 55 countries faced a setback when the United States decided to pull out of the treaty in 2001 saying that it would adversely affect the US economy. The Bush administration felt it to be flawed as developing countries like India and china, two big producers of greenhouse gases were not a part of the treaty.
